Empowered Women Stories: Embracing Connection, Resilience, and New Beginnings

As a Canadian woman in my 60s, I have navigated the complexities of life, embracing challenges and celebrating victories along the way. What does it mean to be a woman in today’s world? For me, it’s about resilience, community, and the relentless pursuit of fairness. On this International Women’s Day, I invite you to join me in reflecting on our collective achievements while looking forward to new possibilities.

Throughout my life, I have made it my mission to stand by my friends and acquaintances, advocating for fairness in every situation. I have been the shoulder to lean on for women who have faced adversity—whether it was navigating difficult relationships or battling injustices in the workplace. I’ve spoken up when it was deemed inappropriate and pursued my own path, starting businesses at a young age when societal norms suggested otherwise.

My journey has not been without struggles. I have faced abuse, blackmail, and the pressure from men who sought to silence me and take what I had created. But I chose to walk away, to start anew, and to become a voice for women everywhere—even if only in small ways. In sharing our struggles, we find strength and solidarity, highlighting the importance of supporting one another in our journeys.

It’s important to recognize that not all men are adversaries. Throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to encounter many good men who have stood by my side and championed my efforts. I married one such man, my husband Jeff, whose unwavering support has been a beacon of strength during the most challenging times. Additionally, my business partner Stephane Metral is someone who recognizes the value of relationships, and together, we are introducing a new way of networking and building connections through AI, science, and technology.

As we reflect on the incredible progress made in women’s rights over the last century, we must recognize how these milestones have paved the way for future generations.

Here’s a look at some key achievements that have shaped the landscape for women in Canada:

  1. 1918: Right to Vote
Women in Canada gained the right to vote in federal elections, marking a significant step towards equality and representation.
  2. 1970: Equal Pay for Equal Work
The introduction of pay equity legislation aimed to address wage disparities, laying the groundwork for women to advocate for fair compensation.
  3. 1982: The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
This pivotal document enshrined women’s rights, providing a legal framework for the protection of gender equality and individual freedoms.
  4. 1993: Canada’s Action Plan for the Employment of Women
This initiative aimed to promote women’s participation in the workforce, addressing barriers to equality in employment.
  5. 2005: Same-Sex Marriage Legalization
Legal recognition of same-sex marriage affirmed the rights of LGBTQ+ women, highlighting the push for inclusive equality.
  6. 2015: The Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
Acknowledging the crisis faced by Indigenous women in Canada, this inquiry sought justice and awareness for marginalized voices.

These milestones are a testament to the strength and resilience of women who have fought for their rights and paved the way for future generations. As we celebrate these achievements, let us remember that our efforts have created a foundation for women to thrive.

As part of my commitment to fostering community and empowerment, I am excited to introduce a new space on our blog called “Connections That Count.” This is a space where we can celebrate each other’s stories, share our journeys, and inspire one another. By creating a platform for sharing, we encourage support and motivation.

Today, every woman has a unique story to share. Just as we celebrate the milestones of women’s rights, we want to empower you to make your voice heard. Whether you’re looking to launch a new venture or simply express your life experiences, this space is here for you.

At 64, I am ready to share! I invested the last four years in something I am incredibly proud of with my business partner Stephane. Although many people find AI and technology intimidating, it’s essential to recognize that we’ve been using AI in various forms for years. Here are a few examples of how AI has enhanced our lives:

  1. Virtual Assistants: Tools like Alexa or Siri act as personal assistants, helping us manage our schedules, set reminders, and answer questions.
  2. Customer Support: AI chatbots provide 24/7 support for businesses, answering queries and improving customer experiences.
  3. Data Analysis: AI can quickly analyze large data sets, providing insights that help businesses make informed decisions.
  4. Personalized Recommendations: Platforms like Netflix and Spotify use AI to suggest content based on our preferences, enhancing our entertainment experiences.
  5. Healthcare: AI is used in medical technology to assist doctors in diagnosing and treating patients more effectively.

By embracing these technologies, we can enhance our productivity and create valuable time to spend with family and friends, grow our ideas, start meaningful ventures, and connect with others. Let’s face the future together without fear!

I’d like to invite you to share your story with us! Whether you’ve overcome challenges, celebrated achievements, or simply want to express your life’s journey, your story has the power to inspire others and create connections that uplift and empower. Let’s get to know each other, do something different, and start a conversation.

Imagine if every woman felt supported in her endeavours.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we recognize the myriad of ways people choose to honour this important occasion. Whether it’s posting a shout-out on social media to uplift the women in your life, gathering for lunch with friends to discuss empowerment, or participating in local events that promote gender equality, every action matters.

No matter how you choose to celebrate—big or small—your voice contributes to a larger chorus advocating for women’s rights and equality. Let’s take this opportunity to connect, share our stories, and inspire one another. Remember, every effort counts in creating a world where every woman feels valued and empowered.

Share Your Story: Let’s Connect!

I invite you to be part of something special! As part of our business launch, we’ve dedicated a category in our blog on Connects You called “Connections That Count.” I would love the opportunity to connect, get to know you, and hear your story. Together, we can inspire others by sharing our unique experiences that empower fellow women and create meaningful connections.
